A topic that greatly interests me is politics. I do not consider myself as part of either political party, as I stand with Democrats on some issues and Republicans on others. The reason that I find politics so interesting is because it is the future of the world that we live in. While ignoring the events in the world around you can lead to a happier, less stressful life, you also do not have any idea what is going on. You cannot prepare yourself for events that may come, because you are living in blissful awareness. I think that politics are both important and captivating.
The reason that politics captivate me is because there are many issues where it seems there is no ‘right answer’. Many people vehemently support their own political party, agreeing with all they do without even understanding it fully or doing their own research. Part of what I love is doing my own research and coming up with my own answer. Something else that captivates me in this area is media coverage. The media supporting either political party often shows a distorted view of what is going on in the world. They report what they choose and how they choose to, in an attempt to control the reactions of the people. I think that understanding politics is important because I can ignore this divide from the media and try to see the bigger picture.
Another reason that politics captivates me is because I love to showcase my opinion. When discussing politics with others, I do so in a way that is respectful. I am open to hearing new ideas and theories. Additionally, I am open to seeing evidence on a certain event and then change my mind on my stance. I think that evidence is incredibly important. I believe that because I am open-minded and willing to learn, I am an ideal person to speak out on politics. I have many opinions that I enjoy sharing with the people around me, as well as the evidence that has convinced me that what I believe is the proper stance to have. I think that by sharing opinions on politics and being open to new information is critical to have an understanding of what is really going on in the world.
Learning more in the field of politics is very tricky. One of the reasons that I get so captivated when looking for information is the same story is reported in many different ways. To get a picture of the full story, each of the reports must be dissected and then pieced back together with the facts that are consistent through each. Additionally, mainstream media does not report on everything. Sometimes it takes digging through the White House website or making phone calls to get an accurate report. Even then, you cannot always trust what you read or hear. I turn to many different places when trying to learn more about what is going on in the world, because stories are often biased one way or another, while others are barely covered at all.
Politics is incredibly captivating because of the immense work that must be done to come up with an accurate, honest opinion. Even the best of arguments may be dissected with the introduction of new evidence, so it is important to always remain open to new information that can change your viewpoint.
